BurnOn CD&DVD is a free and comprehensive burner that will not only create data CDs or DVDs, but will also allow you to copy discs, rip their content into an image file (ISO, IMG, or MDS), split your double-layer DVDs into separate 4.7 Gb discs, and more. It offers you a basic mode and an advanced mode full of self-explanatory wizards, which make it suitable for all kinds of users.
This application is actually a complete suite of tools which covers the whole DVD ripping process, offering you all the grabbing, authoring, mastering, and burning features you need. The program offers two different interfaces - a Quick Start Wizard, and a more complete one for the advanced user. In fact, each dialog points to a different set of wizards, thus making all tasks very easy to follow, regardless of the expertise of the user.
The options that can be selected from the “basic mode” menu are actually the ones we tend to use most frequently – make a copy of a DVD, re-encode a DVD, and create an image file. The so-called advanced options are simply those that take a bit longer to achieve, or that we tend to use less frequently, such as authoring and mastering a DVD, splitting its contents into two, or erasing a rewritable disc.
Only the authoring and the mastering options may require a bit more expertise from the user. They will allow you to create a valid DVD from a collection of VOB files, which you can arrange in the order of your choice, and save as an ISO file that you can burn later. Despite the name, this authoring tool will not allow you to add menus, alternative audio tracks or subtitles, unlike most DVD authoring tools.
As for CDs, the functionality offered is not as versatile as that related to DVDs. With this program you can easily rip and make a copy of a data or audio CD, as well as build you own audio compact discs with your personal selection of tracks.
The whole application is well-structured, and its wizard-based philosophy makes it really attractive for all kinds of users. To make things easier, each option can be accessed from three different places – directly from the two interfaces mentioned above, from pull-down menus, or by clicking on any of the buttons of the task bar.
